Meeting Minutes for the Northern Vermont Macintosh User Group
Held via Zoom online
Jane had issues keeping her connection. She is not yet using her new MacBook Air with the Apple Silicon processor. She tried several times before she was successfully connected for the rest of the meeting.
There was further discussion about Vitamin D, with Jane leading the discussion.
Bruce still has issues with computer freezing and kernel panics that requires a reboots. It was suggested that he hold down on the “D” key on startup and get the Apple hardware diagnostics from Apple to make sure he has no hardware issues. Addendum: Bruce said the test showed no issues, but he ran Disk Utility “Disk First Aid”. He said that it took about 90 minutes to run, versus a short time when he ran it from the computer. His report was that it seemed to correct issues, but time will tell. He will report if the issue has been corrected.
Neil asked about updating to Big Sur on his Intel processor equipped Macs. It was recommended that he try it with one and see if there were issues. If he is running Catalina successfully, his applications should work fine with Big Sur. It was suggested that he got to https://roaringapps.com/apps to check to see if any of his applications are compatible with Big Sur. In addition the site also lists the application issues that have been reported on the new Apple Silicon computers if you are considering or have purchased one.
Design Boom - Had it in my notes, but don’t remember what was discussed, beyond the design on the new MacBook Airs, MacBook Pros, and Mac Minis.
Discussed affect of recent happenings on social media. We discussed the pros and cons of Twitter and Facebook shutting down accounts, Amazon Web Services pulling Parler server accounts, and the pulling of applications from the Apple and Google of the Parler applications from their store sites. The reaction and opinions were varied as one might imagine.
Our next NVMUG meeting will be a Zoom meeting on February 20 at 10:00 am. We may know then about the possibility of meeting face to face, but it currently does not look good.
If you wish to attend, please send me an email by 9:30 am, on that date, so I can send send you an email invitation to the meeting. The meetings will continue to be online meetings instead of the meeting room at the Northeastern Regional Hospital in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. Right now that looks like it will not be before April 1, 2021.
