NVMUG March 16, 2019 Meeting Report
Northern Vermont Macintosh Users Group
Those attending the meeting were: Stephen Farber, Joan Hickey, Bruce Shields, Warren Walker, Midge Lubot, Jane Fuller, Kelly Gonter, and Geof Gonter
First item was about a keyboard that can be used with the iPad in a horizontal orientation. LogicTech has introduced a new Slim Folio Pro. (https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2019/4/2/18291846/logitech-slim-folio-pro-ipad-pro-3rd-generation-keyboard-backlit) that works with the Pro or iPad Retina. It is made to be used in the landscape mode rather than the portrait mode. It features a rechargeable battery and a back lit keyboard, when the bottom is slid next to the keyboard. It features a dedicated row of iOS shortcut keys and a built-in strap to keep the second generation Apple Pencil (For the iPad Pro only) secure while it’s magnetically attached and charging from the iPad. It connects through Bluetooth, unlike Apple’s Smart Keyboard Folio. It also is considerably cheaper than Apple’s product.
Our discussion continued with Ad Blockers for iOS and macOS X browsers. Blockers for the browsers are found in Extensions for each browser. I recommend uBlock Origin, but others are available. iOS blockers are listed at https://www.tenorshare.com/iphone-tips/best-adblock-apps-iphone.html. They are available through the iTunes App Store.
We polled the group as to the applications each use the most, on all devices:
Joan: Contacts, Reminders, Pages, Numbers, Quicken, Day One Journal, iTunes, Messages, Camera (iOS), Daily Tracker, Photos, and Solitaire, (Talked about iWatch and apps, along with some issue Joan is having with her watch)
Bill: Word processors and browsers (for NetFlix)
Bruce: Pages, Turbo Tax, Quicken, Dropbox, and theViaSat browser (for his ISP and is a modified Chrome browser)
Warren: Chrome and Photoshop

The NVMUG Meeting is this coming Saturday, May 18, 2019. It is normally in Room 224 of the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in Saint Johnsbury, VT. If the folks aren't there, look around at other rooms, including the cafeteria. The group ending up meeting there when they found 224 was occupied. The meeting is informal with no particular topic. The next formal meeting will be June 15 and Stephen Farber will make a presentation on iCloud, the possibilities and why you should consider using it, if you are not.
